Aluminum recycling saves large amounts of environmentally harmful carbon dioxide emissions. Every single kilo or ton saves 13 times more carbon dioxide emissions. It allows us to better manage our natural resources.
If Stena Aluminum's volumes were replaced with newly produced aluminum from bauxite, the climate-affecting carbon dioxide emissions would increase by more than 900,000 tonnes each year.
There are significant positive effects with recycling compared to using virgin raw materials. The positive climate benefit is possible through the industry's strong interest in using our circular aluminum. It reduces our industrial customers' industrial footprint in their supply chain, which is high on the agenda.
Stena Aluminum's smelter in Älmhult is the only one in Sweden to use 100% recycled aluminum as a raw material. The aluminum raw material collected and processed comes from businesses and municipalities in the northern part of Europe. It can be anything from aluminum waste in the manufacturing industry to aluminum sorted from end of life vehicles, electronics, and other used products.
Through increased extraction of the raw material, liquid aluminum delivery and other production techniques we constantly innovate, ensuring benefits both to the environment and our customers.
